Применение эстрогенов является производителями и некоторые органы должны быть противопоказаны пациентам с активным тромботических или тромбоэмболических расстройств. Использование эстроген-содержащих пероральных контрацептивов дополнительно считается противопоказанием в пациентах с историей таких расстройств и/или течения цереброваскулярной или коронарной артерии. Гиперкоагуляция и изменения различных факторов свертывания и компонентов крови наблюдается у женщин, получающих эстроген терапии. Хотя клиническое значение этих эффектов неизвестны, эпидемиологические данные предполагают, что это может быть дозозависимой. Риск является, вероятно, небольшим при применении новых, низкодозированные оральные контрацептивы, при отсутствии известных факторов риска (например, курильщик, особенно старше 35 лет; гипертония; гиперлипидемия; ожирение; сахарный диабет; возраст старше 40 лет). Однако, гораздо более значительным риском сообщалось с более высокие дозы, такие как те, которые используются для лечения рака предстательной железы или метастазирующего рака молочной железы или тех, что использовались в старых препаратов противозачаточные таблетки.
