Аминогликозиды могут вызвать повреждение восьмой пары черепных нервов, в результате чего в вестибулярной и/или слуховой токсичности. Симптомы включают головокружение, нистагм, головокружение, атаксия, шум в ушах, и различной степенью нарушения слуха. Постоянная потеря слуха может произойти, в том числе, редко, полное или частичное необратимой двусторонней глухоты после того, как препарат был прекращен. Терапия с аминогликозидами, особенно при длительном (> 10 дней), следует назначать с осторожностью в пациентах с существовавшие ранее вестибулярной и/или слуховые нарушения, поскольку это может задержать признание или поставить в тупик диагноз лекарственно-индуцированного ототоксическое действие. Чтобы минимизировать риск отравления, пациенты должны быть адекватно гидратированы, обычная аминогликозид дозировка не должна быть превышена, использование с других ототоксичных веществ следует избегать, и пиком и впадиной в сыворотке крови концентрации аминогликозидов должны периодически определяться и дозировка скорректирована для поддержания желаемых уровней. Серийный аудиограмм должны быть получены у пациентов достаточно стар, чтобы быть проверены, так как потеря высокой частоты восприятия, как правило, предшествует клиническим потери слуха. Дозировка должна быть уменьшена или лечение немедленно отменено, если признаки и симптомы токсичности развиваться.
